Paper Scraps Collection

Input

Newsprint (regular and glossy), computer paper (laser and dot-matrix), envelopes (plain and windowed), junk mail, flyers, dockets, tissues, napkins and serviettes, torn paper bags (no longer suitable for lunches), even Jigsaw Puzzles!

Output

About two gallons of pureed paper matter. This slurry is strained through a filter (see Bacterial Filter System ) to make a pasty sort of mess. To this is added strained Kitchen Scraps slurry.

Description

All compostable paper goes into a large (two feet high, one foot square) cardboard carton.

Compostable Paper includes the regular newsprint, old computer paper, envelopes, tissues and the like.

I have learned that glossy paper is just regular paper with a thin film of fine clay. Once the surface this paper is broken up, it is assailable by the worms. I use glossy paper too. Window envelopes which bear bills, those envelopes are used.

When puree time comes around, usually once a week, I grab a volume of paper roughly equal to three times the volume of Kitchen Scraps , and pass this paper through the blender.

A modification: I now drop small papers directly into the bacterial water pail. These papers gather up moisture and bacteria and can be pureed directly without any need for tearing.
